What to Make to Celebrate National Sausage Pizza Day

  • Because this day is celebrated in October, and sausage pizza is outstanding.

Did you know the month of October celebrated this absolutely fantastic food we call sausage pizza? Here are all the ways to enjoy one of the best pizza combos you’ve ever tried.

Sausage with Onions and Multi-Colored Bell Peppers

This sausage pizza is an oldie but a goodie, I’ve seen this combo since I was a kiddo. Sautéed onions and red/yellow/orange/green diced bell peppers with sausage and red sauce is one of the best pizzas you can consume.

Italian Sausage with Alfredo Sauce and Broccoli

Italian sausage adds a little bit of spice and a little bit of zing, and the creaminess and richness of the alfredo sauce tastes just heavenly together. Add fresh, warmed broccoli or even oven-roasted broccoli to the top with a sprinkle of strong Italian cheese like Parmesan or Asiago and some freshly cracked pepper and this pizza will be just fantastic.

 Double Sausage and Mushrooms

People who love mushrooms on pizza, love mushrooms on pizza. Like they can’t get enough, and are pretty much obsessed. Make this duo with two types of sausage, pork and Italian, and then, add all the mushrooms. White cap mushrooms, Portabellas, Chanterelles, Porcinis. I mean, load the thing up. Use a Mozzarella cheese and a red sauce, but be sure to sprinkle a strong Italian cheese and some fresh black pepper (or red pepper flakes if you prefer,) before serving.

Italian Sausage with Banana Peppers

If you only had two toppings you could have on your pizza, what would they be? How about Italian sausage and banana peppers? Let’s do this. Banana peppers are tart and pickle-like, with a little heat and pair so well with a spicy Italian sausage. This pizza, like others, is delicious with a red sauce and would be tasty with a garlic sauce as well. But, can you imagine this pizza with a cream-based or Alfredo sauce? Now that sounds like a sausage pizza to try and fall in love with.

Sausage Meat Lovers

For those that love all the meat, meat lovers it is! Top this one with pork sausage, Italian sausage, chorizo, ham, pepperoni and bacon sprinkled on top, because you know we had to add bacon. This would be tasty with almost any base sauce including red sauce, a spicy red sauce, alfredo sauce, garlic sauce or even a seasoned up tomato sauce.

Sausage and Cheese

Making a classic can be kept as such or easily played with. A typical red sauce, topped with mozzarella and sausage is great all in itself. Play it up with a different type of sauce and sausage, or even several. Maybe try a spicy Italian Sausage with Asiago Cheese and garlic-based sauce. All this pizza talk is really sounding too good.

Sausage and Pineapple

Ahh, I know. Don’t come at me about this combo, though. I mean, have you even tried it? Use a red sauce, mozzarella cheese, some sweet Italian sausage, spicy Italian sausage, and some pineapple chunks. You will never know if you don’t try, and it could be your new favorite!

All of these pizzas would be absolutely scrumptious topped with parmesan cheese, red pepper flakes, some cracked black pepper, and even dipped in a garlic sauce or your favorite pizza “dip.” So I have to know, when are you going to make your next sausage pizza and what are you going to top it with?
