There are so many ways to use baking soda beyond baking in the kitchen. Let’s find new things to do all around the house.
Deep Clean in the Kitchen
Deep clean a pan, specifically. Sometimes we think we scorched a pan, we feel we burned it so bad and wore it out that the pan isn’t worth saving anymore. But then in comes baking soda. Pans that need a little extra work and are burnt can really get clean with a little baking soda. Sprinkle a couple tablespoons into your pan and scrub it with a sponge. Slowly add hot water to really work it in and voila! Your pan is going to look a lot better than when you started.
To Disinfect Retainers
Whether it’s the old pinkish, clearish one with the metal bar. Or the new clear invisalign, you can clean them both with a little baking soda. Make a bit of a paste by adding water, and brush it onto the retainer, cleaning it thoroughly. This works on dentures as well.
Disinfect your Sponges
We often forget to clean the things that help us clean, and sponges are one of them. They are especially known for being one of the biggest spots for unhealthy bacteria. Make sure to clean your sponges sometimes, and soak them in baking soda and water to clean them most effectively.
Deodorize Your Furry Family’s Furniture
Ha, see what I did there? Whether it’s your cat’s bed, dog’s bed, or other furry friend, baking soda goes a long way with helping keep the smell down. Before vacuuming, sprinkle on the pet’s bed and let it soak for about 15 minutes before vacuuming it away.
Help Your Sunburn

Yes, it’s true. Baking soda can help relieve your sunburn. Please, use sunscreen when you are out and about this summer, and while we’re at it, use a natural and healthy sunscreen, too. But if you get a little too red, you can help kill the sting a little if you use baking soda and cold water. If you follow that up with aloe, you’ll feel even more relief. It’s almost Spring, and then comes Summer.
Remove Water Stains
Water stains suck and they can be torture to clean up. But, if you have the right products, in this case baking soda, you can clear the stains right up. Add baking soda and water to the glass or onto whatever surface you want to remove the water stains from, and mix them in. Circular motions work best for this and in no time, your water stains will be gone.
Keep Away Bugs
You know, bugs? Pests? Everyone has some of them around the house, yet no one wants them around the house. Without doing a full fumigation at home, products don’t work well. However, you should try to use baking soda. Just pour some near the pests’ homes, and that should help to control the infestation a bit.
Brighten your Laundry

Yup, you can throw baking soda right into the laundry, and it helps with both colors and whites. Use half a cup of it in your typical detergent for the most effective results. On top of brighter, better looking clothes, the baking soda helps with odor, too.
Put out a Fire
Fires in the kitchen can be super dangerous, mostly because water doesn’t work on most of them! If you have an oil fire with a lot of grease, this is the time for baking soda. It adds carbon dioxide to the flame, and works its way into the fire to put it out.
Deodorize Your Fridge

Literally, just put a box, opened, into your fridge. It helps collect the odors of your fridge, so that you don’t have to smell them. Even the cleanest of fridges have lingering smells and odors, that’s just the name of the game. But you can have a pretty stinkless fridge as long as there’s an opened, fresh (they last several months collecting smells,) box of baking soda in there.
